  • 2009 -25 years since the journey began! A sequence of planned and unexpected events resulted in the creation of Thorngrove. ‘Much of the culture of South Australia since European settlement has been derivative, and the taste amongst the elite for a country residence was inherited from the age old tradition, one well established in Great Britain, where a mark of success was the ownership of a country property with a dignified house set in fine grounds.’ During the mid to late 1800s the wealthy colonists in Adelaide aspired to replicate the British tradition of owning prestigious and lavish country mansions. Despite often being at odds with their environment, they are now very much a part of the landscape. Some of Adelaide’s best colonial architects designed baronial and gothic influenced residences that were constructed in and around Stirling and Crafers, including the vice-regal summer residence, Marble Hill at Norton Summit. ‘Eccentricity, folly and exoticism were well tolerated among the rich. Such extravagances were expressions of their special aspirations and achievements.’ It is this historical and creative design concept that underpins the existence of Thorngrove Manor. The architectural plans for Thorngrove were completed and approved 1984.Construction began mid 1984. The property has been consistently redeveloped and evolves on a daily basis! Countless progressive renovations have maintained consistent and impeccable standards.

We hate to leave this wonderful enironment and look forward very much to returning.
