‘Outside living-in’ is the concept at Aleenta Resort. Suites have retractable glass walls, lofts benefit from stunning sea views and villas provide outdoor living areas. Actively sustainable luxury hotels
Environmentally Conscious
From monthly green team meetings and regular staff sustainability training, to community beach clean-ups, low-impact tours such as hiking and kayaking, and marine-grade stainless steel beach furniture, the list of ‘light touch’ initiatives feels endless at this solar-powered Andaman Sea resort, which keeps its biosphere reserve setting front of mind. Aleenta Resort was ahead of the trend when removing single-use plastic from its rooms and dining outlets, using glass straws, stainless steel drinking bottles, locally made ceramic bathroom dispensers which can be purchased in the resort’s refill boutique Galleria which sells organic amenities, and reusable room keys. Aleenta Resort invests in local marine conservation and regeneration through the charitable foundation, Pure Blue, by funding the Fishery Research Department’s efforts to repopulate reef fish and soft corals, reef growth acceleration projects, and sponsoring two turtle sanctuaries to rehabilitate injured turtles, plus protect nests and hatchlings of critically endangered species. Guests are also given access to a wide selection of complimentary bicycle services including route maps, pocket Wi-Fi, and bike stands.
Cultural Custodians
The resort actively promotes immersive and rewarding cultural experiences such as Thai cooking classes, during which Aleenta chefs guide guests through the local market stalls and the purchase and preparation of traditional ingredients, alongside locally guided visits to nearby temples which include storytelling and the sharing of ancient customs and Buddhist beliefs. The resort’s extensive network of local guides, drivers, and tour operators focus on authentic, nature-based excursions, from sea-kayaking around Phang Nga Bay with local fishermen, to exploring Khao Sok National park with a local wildlife expert – on foot or by bamboo river craft – while spotting over 500 animal species from a respectful distance. Aleenta Resort follows a strict anti-animal exploitation policy and does not sell tickets, accept commissions, or in any way promote unethical animal experiences such as elephant riding or tiger shows. Instead, guests are encouraged to visit four nearby ethical elephant parks or spend time at the Gibbon Project which specialises in primate rehabilitation in the animals’ natural habitat.
Community Minded
Actively recruiting the Aleenta team from the local community, and cultivating long-held relationships with staff such as the Resident Manager and Executive Chef (his gluten-free pancakes are made from local ingredients) who have both been with the resort for over 15 years, a familial spirit runs throughout the Aleenta experience. Staff regularly visit local schools to educate children about the impact of disposable waste on the environment, alongside improving the nutritional value of school meals by creating a school vegetable garden to supply the kitchen, in addition to sponsoring two student teams with swimming and cycling lessons. Wherever possible, the resort purchases from local producers and farmers, including locally grown red rice that is milled on demand, and homemade soaps, essential oils, and artisan goods which are featured at Aleenta’s weekend farmers market. To minimise the impact of water usage on its neighbouring communities, every Aleenta villa has its own water treatment system which utilises microorganisms and enzymes rather than harsh chemicals to treat the water.
