Stratford-upon-Avon sets the scene for this timeless riverside retreat

A redbrick manor with a boutique townhouse just a short saunter away – together, The Arden Hotel and House are the stuff that Shakespearean dreams are made of. In fact, they’re named after the forest hideaway in As You Like It. Here you can dine alfresco by the water, take in the RSC theatre backdrop and begin evenings with a bang in the Champagne Bar.

Though town-based, staying in either property feels like a country escape. Through the white door of The Arden, heritage décor and contemporary furnishings, luxury and comfort share the limelight. Chesterfields sit beside floating fires and vintage-style afternoon tea gives way to fine dining evening menus. Blissful bedrooms can be in the main building or at nearby Arden House. In the latter, breakfast is served round the family-style dining table and there’s a pantry of help-yourself treats.

When out and about, take picnics to the riverbank or hire boats to go upstream. Peek inside Shakespeare’s childhood home, Anne Hathaway’s cottage or the stately houses and castles peppered through the county. Then wander to the theatre for a production by the ‘Swan of Avon’ – with a pre-play drink in The Arden Hotel Club Bar or complimentary ‘gin o’clock’ at Arden House first.

Enjoy your stay!

Another fabulous stay at The Arden

On this visit to Stratford-upon-Avon we saw a show at the RSC, it was brilliant. The Arden sits opposite the RSC and very close to town so its ideally situated. We are never disappointed.

Lovely stay, great welcome!

We had a lovely stay at The Arden, as usual the welcome was warm and efficient. The room was perfect, as was the breakfast. We felt the food in the Dining Room and the menu were much better than on previous visits. There is plenty of parking which is always a bonus.

Friendly, ideally placed and comforable

We chose the Arden because of the location opposite ~RSC as we had a double header. The service was impecable and Jack at the front desk looked after every need. Ideal for theatre goers

This is our second stay this year and is ideally suited as we come to Stratford for the theatre. Now that the RSC has reopened the main house we are catching up with some plays, the most recent postponed from December 2020. The Arden is ideally suited for us just opposite the theatre but also close Read more[SPLIT]Read lessto the shopping along the High Street, Bridge Street and surrounding area. There are also good walks along the river and the canal. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room comfortable although it would have benefited from more shelf or draw space, it had a spacious and well-appointed bathroom with separate walk-in shower which we appreciated. We will be visiting again later in the year.

Excellent Location for theatre visit

Great to be back in Stratford and at The Arden. We were there for a theatre visit and to visit friends in the area. The Arden was a haven, staff welcoming and helpful. Have already booked a return visit.

Good to see that little has changed

Having stayed here many times pre-Covid, it was reassuring to see that the service style and quality offered by the Arden are still very much in evidence. I have always enjoyed dining in the restaurant, and the quality of the food offer is still excellent. The only downside was that the restaurant Read more[SPLIT]Read lessis closed from Sunday evening to Tuesday - not great when you stay Sunday night. The hotel is ideally situated in the centre of town, next to the river and to quality restaurants

The room, the Redwood, has a partial view of the river. There is little soundproofing so we did hear our neighbours. Also the cold tap came out warm. The shower temperature changed at whim. Breakfast was very good indeed. The bed is fabulous. Staff are helpful, and especially the operations manager. Read more[SPLIT]Read less Covid interfered with the full enjoyment of our break. The best hotel in Stratford!

I always stay at the Arden when I need to be in Stratford overnight. The staff are always very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. I like having room service breakfast, an amazing choice of items can be had, and the fresh orange juice is wonderful. Great to have free parking as a resident, and Read more[SPLIT]Read lessit's opposite the theatre. If I'm having a night in, the DVD player is appreciated. I have stayed in a lot of the rooms over the past few years, and they are all very comfortable and I have a brilliant night's sleep, good that the rooms are all so individual. I would just like to see the return of the pre-theatre menu, which used to be great, a tasting menu is not so good for an individual guest.

The best hotel in Stratford!

I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions over the past 3 years, always just one or two nights, and the service and accommodation are both superb and cannot be faulted. There are comfortable chairs to watch the good-sized TV from, and a DVD player is included too. I always have room service breakfast, and am offered exactly the same choices as in the restaurant. All food is freshly cooked, which is why I have room service as it is faster for my needs. There is fresh milk in the fridge, rather than long-life, and good quality biscuits and fresh fruit. It is great having a good hotel this close to the centre of town (as well as being opposite the RSC theatre) that offers free parking for residents. My only small criticism is that the affordable options in the restaurant for dinner are now part of a tasting menu, not quite so practical for a solo diner. I used to love the 3-course set menu, especially if I was going out to the theatre.

I have been staying at the Arden Hotel when on business in Stratford for a couple of years, and would not stay anywhere else. I always have room service breakfast which is brilliant, with a choice of full English or something a bit lighter.
