Introducing Skodje

Enter Skodje and experience fjord country at its wildest and most beautiful. It’s a landscape of tall pines and craggy outcrops, calm waters and secluded islets, where time seems suspended in the crisp mountain air. Forest pathways lead ever upwards, revealing intoxicating views at each turn. With its wood-clad cabins and snow-capped peaks, Skodje seems straight out of Norse legend.

Things to do

NATURE
Covering 120 square kilometres, Skodje is as diverse as it is breathtaking. Escape up thickly forested slopes that ascend into glacial slides, their imposing peaks reflecting endlessly in the fjords below. Emerald farmlands roll into the distance, resonating with the echo of waterfalls as they tumble into the ice-cold rivers.

SPORT
Under its dark, glassy surface, the water of Skodje teems with life. Spend lazy afternoons fishing for trout and salmon in the region’s rivers, lakes and fjords. Then work up an appetite for your catch, biking over green pastures, trekking up hilltop passes and descending thrilling switchback tracks.

DAY TRIPS
Get your city fix with a trip to nearby Ålesund. Spread across several islands, this colourful port town is home to an extraordinary cluster of Art Nouveau architecture. Whether wandering boutique-lined streets or indulging in some of Norway’s finest dining, it’s a charming town and a feast for the senses.

Top Tip from SLH

For an incredible fjord vista, take an evening stroll across the old Skodje bridge. Now walker-friendly, it’s still the longest masonry arch road bridge in Norway.
