LANDMARKS
You need go no further than Cartagena’s Old Town to appreciate the city’s essence. The inner walled town that encompasses El Centro and San Diego is glorious. From the restful comfort of your boutique hotel, stroll up the Hill of La Popa, topped by a grand 17th-century former convent, for the finest panoramic views.
WATER
Being on Colombia’s northern coast, Cartegena de Indias is just ten minutes drive away from superb windsurfing, sea kayaking and jet-ski territory. You could also take the 45-minute boat trip to the unspoilt Islas del Rosario National Park. Here visitors can scuba dive in the clear waters and explore fascinating coral reefs.
FOOD & DRINK
Fine dining in Cartegena de Indias is often all about exquisite seafood. Tiny, almost hidden restaurants serve the world’s best ceviche, while grand old colonial properties house rightly famous eateries like La Vitriola. Elsewhere, succulent steaks and perfectly matched wines are very much on the menu.
