Introducing Okanogan

Adventure comes easy in Okanogan country. Scenic highways wind through snowcapped peaks, connecting charming rural towns, lively fairs and the occasional rodeo. Explore byways, trails and rivers on foot, by bike or on horseback – no matter how you choose to roam, stunning views and raw nature await at every turn.

Things to do

SPORT
Okanogan County boasts the largest cross-country ski trail network in North America, while those who prefer a faster pace can enjoy traditional downhill thrills, snowmobiling, and ice skating. When the snow melts, miles of picture-perfect trails are revealed, winding through aspen groves and pretty meadows. Head to the Many Lakes Region for excellent fishing, or try tubing in the sultry summer months for maximum scenery with minimal effort.

NATURE
Okanogan’s high deserts and alpine meadows are a mecca for songbirds and upland birds, while eagle-eyed visitors may catch a glimpse of birds on the wing along the North Pacific migratory flyway. The Pasayten Wilderness along the US-Canada borderlands is home to deer, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and a healthy population of lynx. Amid the native flora, eyes peeled for a profusion of colourful butterflies.

CULTURE
Farmers markets, music and art trails make for a diverting day in pretty town Twisp, while visitors can get in touch with their inner cowboy in rural Winthrop, where boots, boardwalks and big hats rule. Travel back in time at Shafer Historical Museum’s outdoor replica pioneer village, or discover the American-Indian legend ‘How the animals got their names’ in Omak’s outdoor sculpture park.
