A spirited city that will captivate your soul

From the second you step into the city Jaipur excites all the senses. You’ll find yourself captivated by the sights and sounds of the bazaar, and the mouth-watering aromas of the flavoursome cuisine. The locals are extremely friendly and they’ll want to talk to you as soon as wander out from your luxury hotel. To get acclimatised, take a rickshaw and watch the exuberance as you go by.

Things to do

FESTIVALS
There are celebrations and festivities throughout the year, including everything from the Teej Festival in July and August to the Mewar Festival that welcomes the advent of spring. If you like your celebrations big, don’t miss the Elephant Festival in March.

SHOPPING
The bustling bazaars of Jaipur may be filled to bursting with tourists, as well as lots of goods designed just for them, but they are still an intoxicating must-see destination. Take time to browse the local jewellery and gem shops – the city is famous for them.

FOOD
If you like fragrant Indian food you’ll love Jaipur. Take a Rajasthani food tour across the city, stopping off to experience a range of flavours and a world of spices. Or enrol in a cooking workshop to learn how to cook Indian style.

Top Tip from SLH

If you visit a gem merchant, don’t come with a guide or a driver – they will earn a commission, pushing up the price of anything you buy.
