Things to do
NATURE
Get a bird’s eye view of the rainforest as you wander along a canopy walkway to Poring Hot Springs – a natural spa. Quietly watch turtles laying eggs on the aptly named Turtle Beach. And then meet Borneo’s orang-utans at the Sepilok Rehabiliation Centre, as they emerge from the treetops to snack on bananas. There are enough natural wonders and rare sights in Borneo to fill a lifetime.
DAY TRIPS
Take to the water in Borneo for a unique view of flora and fauna. Paddle along the Kinabatangan River and you might spot rare pygmy elephants, macaques, gibbons and a proboscis monkey or two on the banks. Or head below ground and explore the mysterious caves at Gunung Mulu – home to stalagmites and serene pools lit by shards of sunlight.
BEACHES
On Gaya Island you’ll find unspoilt beaches backed by mangroves and rainforest. Dive beneath the turquoise waters here and discover colourful coral reefs and a dazzling array of fish. It’s perfect for an island getaway.
