Introducing Kimberley

How do you like your wilderness? Magnificent gorges, plenty of rainforest, an abundance of wildlife? Then you’ll love Kimberley. Very few people live in this vast area, which means it feels unspoilt, and the stunning destinations and beach resorts are tranquil.

Things to do

LANDMARKS
The aboriginal site known as Purnululu is filled with eerie sandstone domes and is now a UNESCO world heritage site. It was only discovered in the 1980s, and you’ll need a sturdy 4x4 to be able to get here by land.

WATER
With plummeting gorges and meandering rivers, it’s no surprise there are lots of waterfalls here. The Mitchell Falls are difficult to get to, but these and the Horizontal Falls can be accessed by private helicopter via a tour operator.

SPORTS
If you’re a keen diver, head out to the Rowley Shoals, accessible from Broome. This chain of coral atolls offers some of the best diving in the world, with near vertical sides and fish species you’ll see nowhere else.

Top Tip from SLH

If you want to feel like you’ve truly stepped off the map, the Tanami Trek is one of the most remote routes you’ll ever escape to. There are no facilities, so make sure you travel prepared.
