Things to do
WINE
With more sunshine hours than any other county, Marlborough has shot to fame as the New Zealand’s biggest wine-producing region. While here, sip a chilled glass of the local (and worldwide) favourite, Sauvignon Blanc. Or you could plan a tasting tour around Marlborough’s best vineyards, surrounding the town of Blenheim.
NATURE
From mountains and forests to river valleys and rocky coastline, Marlborough’s natural beauty is startlingly diverse. Walking tours are the best way to spot local flora and fauna, from orchids to native birds like the tui and bellbird. Boat trips offer the chance to see dolphins and orca whales.
BEACHES
Travel to the Marlborough Sounds to explore peaceful waterways and secluded, sandy beaches. Many coves can be reached by boat, or by walking down from forest trails. Further north is Abel Tasman National Park, where mountains reach down to long, golden beaches.
