BEACHES
Lošinj is a treasure trove of charming pebble beaches, fine stretches of sand and hideaway coves. You could begin at Čikat – a collection of bays wrapped up in ancient pine woodland – or escape to picture perfect Veli žal. Sunbathe on the rocks overlooking Borik cove. Or follow the old sea captains to Cape Madonna. Here you’ll find the cliffside Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, said to listen to sailors’ sighs.
LANDMARKS
Locals celebrate Lošinj for its flora, fauna and fragrance. Experience this for yourself and make time to meander the Garden of Fine Scents in Mali filled with native flowers and medicinal herbs. FOOD
The cuisine here is drawn from the natural surroundings, with plenty of Mediterranean influences. Look out for shellfish caught by local fishermen that day, risottos made with aromatic, just-picked herbs and plenty of olive oil. For a taste of local specialties, stop by a local tavern and order a bowl of brodetto – flavoursome fish stew.
