Introducing Prague

Whether you seek revelry or relaxation, a city break in Prague offers both in equal measure. Spend your days wandering through the Old Town, with its countless cobbled lanes, bustling squares and medieval gems. Or simply take a seat in a traditional coffee shop and watch the world go by. By night, the city comes to life with everything from tucked away restaurants and welcoming pubs to buzzing live music venues to discover. On top of offering some of the country's best hotels, Prague offers an old town like no other.

Things to do

In Prague, stepping out from your luxury boutique hotel becomes a journey through time. This old city can trace its roots back over 1,000 years – with the Old Town Square part of daily life for centuries. Starting here, you could take in the marvellous astronomical clock before delving into a maze of cobbled lanes. Stroll along the Charles Bridge, one of the finest gothic landmarks in Europe, then explore the treasures of St Vitus’ Cathedral. Don’t miss a visit to Prague Castle, either. This sprawling complex features an ancient keep, lavish palaces and grand gardens.

With everything from gothic churches to colourful art nouveau townhouses, Prague offers a walk-through history of European architecture. There are plenty of artistic treasures to discover, too, such as the elegant Mucha Museum and cutting-edge DOX Centre for Contemporary Art. But the real star of Prague’s cultural scene is the music. Hallowed halls such as the Rudolfinum and National Theatre play host to inspiring classical concerts. Or you could seek out a chic bar and listen to a jazz quartet.

Prague boasts a wide variety of places to eat, from international fine dining to bustling markets and tempting cake shops. Bohemian favourites include simple, warming specialities such as meat dumplings and tasty stews – perfect with Prague’s famous crisp, cold beers. While you’ll find many of the big names wherever you go, look out for local craft beers from the Czech Republic’s booming microbrewery industry.
