Introducing Massignac

Willow trees line the waterways. Limousin cows graze in the meadows. In Massignac, you'll find unspoilt natural beauty at every turn. This is the place to picnic on a lakeside 'beach', or follow a walking trail through a forest. Sports enthusiasts won't be disappointed either, with excellent golf courses and plenty of spots for angling. Be sure to stop and admire a castle or two before journeying back to your very own luxury château at the end of the day.

Things to do

WATER
In Massignac, you’ll find yourself in lake country. Where, despite being inland, at the picturesque Les Lacs de Haute Charente you can spend a day at the beach. You could try windsurfing and sailing at Lac de Mas Chaban. Or escape east to Plage de la Guerlie at Lac de Lavaud, to stretch out and relax on the sand.

LANDMARKS
Massignac is part of a region peppered with medieval châteaux, many of which are open to visitors. From your boutique hotel you’ll be perfectly placed to travel to Château de Rochechouart. Not only does this 13th-century castle have romantic turrets and beautifully preserved interiors – it also houses a contemporary art museum.

FAMILY ACTIVITES
Cycle along woodland trails or fly through the canopy on a zip wire. At the Adventure Parc de Haute Charente, little ones and big kids are invited on an adventure through the trees. There are bungee jumps for thrill-seekers, and inflatable play areas for younger children. Bring a picnic and spend a whole day of fun in the forest.

Top Tip from SLH

The lakes around Massignac aren’t just for beach-lovers. Bring your binoculars to Lac de Lavaud and see how many of the 170 species of bird you can spot from the observatory.
