Introducing Ischia

The scenery on this volcanic island is a patchwork of vineyards, Roman ruins and woodland. Private beaches combine with exquisite fine dining to create a spectacular Italian escape. And the relaxed pace of life and exclusive spa retreats on Ischia makes this an ideal destination for relaxation.

Things to do

HISTORY
Formed by volcanic activity and eruptions on the seabed, the pretty island continued to experience sporadic eruptions and earthquakes until the late 19th century. But Ischia’s volatile volcanic past is thankfully long gone. Ischia was also once an important stop off on the trade route from Greece to northern Italy in the 8th century and there are hints of its maritime past to look out for.

SPA
Ischia’s natural hot springs vary in temperature between 20˚C and 80˚C, making some of them ideal for spa retreats. The therapeutic qualities of the thermal waters have been enjoyed here since Roman times. Try out the apparent healing qualities of the waters yourself and enjoy a relaxing escape from the everyday in one of the exclusive spa retreats on the island.

FOOD
This being Italy, you can expect nothing less than world-class fine dining almost everywhere you choose to eat. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to exclusive restaurants and traditional cuisine in Ischia. Be sure to try the local speciality, rabbit in white wine. Enjoy your meal al fresco with sweeping views of the Bay of Naples as an accompaniment.

Top Tip from SLH

Savour the local white wine made from vines grown on the fertile volcanic slopes of nearby Mount Epomeo – Ischia’s highest point.
