Things to do

FAMILY ACTIVITIES
There's something for everyone in and around Merano. Families will enjoy the Lido Waterpark, with big swimming pools, a DJ, games and fitness activities. In winter the Merano 2000 Ski Area offers mild-climate skiing and is perfect for beginners. For the more intrepid, head to the Merano High Mountain trail for stunning views of the Merano basin, the Alps and, on an especially clear day, the distant Dolomites.

CULTURE
While in the beautiful historic centre of Merano, be sure to stop in the one of the many museums, churches and cathedrals. Surrounded by Alpine views, the spectacular Trauttmansdorff Castle Gardens are worth a visit: the gardens fill an entire amphitheatre with exotic plants and flowers. Sample a glass of the light red Meraner Leiten for a taste of the local fine wine before you visit the art nouveau-style Kurhaus.

EVENTS
Visit Merano in late August and September to catch the world-renowned Merano Music Festival. The month-long classical music extravaganza features some of the world's top symphonic orchestras and solo performers. Opera, jazz and theatre performances also take place and concerts are held in beautiful halls, pavilions and gardens.
