Introducing Valle Aurina

Look out from your luxury hotel and the chances are you won’t be able to tell whether you’re in Austria or Italy. Valle Aurina is where the awesome Alpine beauty of the former meets the charming terracotta townscapes of the latter. The South Tyrol is a big favourite with skiers, and a stay at Valle Aurina puts you in pole position for thrilling slopes that become wonderful hiking routes in the summer.

Things to do

LANDMARKS
The church of St Jacob dates back to the 16th century and houses an important winged altarpiece from that period. Valle Aurina was also once the home to copper mines, and the South Tyrolean Mining Museum is a popular and fascinating destination.

NATURE
The Valle Aurina is a rolling verdant plateau, surrounded by over 80 mountains rising more than 3,000 metres. The landscape houses so many beautiful sights, including the breathtaking Riva waterfalls.

SKIING
Visit Valle Aurina in the winter months and you’re in the perfect place for world class skiing. The Speikboden area has 20km of slopes and 27 ski lifts. There are plenty of nursery slopes for the children, and black runs for adventurous types.

Top Tip from SLH

If you’re travelling around the South Tyrol by bus or train, it’s worth investing in a ‘Carta valore’. You can find them for sale in shops and restaurants.
