Introducing Marlow-on-Thames

Whatever you’re doing in Marlow-on-Thames the river is never far away. This town is a favourite destination for rowers, and the home of an Olympic medallist or two. Why not stroll along the Thames to Cookham, another delightful town, or sit and watch the world go by in one of the many cafés before retiring to your luxury country retreat.

Things to do

LANDMARKS
From Eton College to Windsor Castle, Marlow is surrounded by historic buildings that are well worth a visit. Be sure to stop by Hughenden, once the home of British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli – it’s a marvellously preserved Victorian manor house.

FESTIVALS
Situated right on the River Thames, Marlow is the perfect setting for a regatta. So it’s no wonder the locals organise two each year. Held in June, the Marlow Town Regatta is for novices, while the International Regatta now takes place on Dorney Lake – a 2012 Olympic venue.

FOOD
The Hand and Flowers in Marlow won fame as the first UK gastro pub to win two Michelin stars. If you’re hoping for fine dining, be sure to book ahead, and sample the locally brewed beer too.

Top Tip from SLH

If your legs are too tired to walk along the river to Bourne End, hop on board the train. The local ‘Marlow Donkey’ runs on a single track line and makes for a pleasant journey.
