Introducing Sheffield

Thanks to regeneration through the later twentieth century, Sheffield has more trees per resident than any other European city. Gaze at its skyline to see branches interspersed with chimneys. Home to a number of annual festivals and vibrant nightlife, and with a rich industrial heritage, this is a happening city with lots to reward any visitor.

Things to do

FESTIVALS
A number of successful pop and rock bands hail from Sheffield, so it’s no surprise that the Tramlines, an annual music festival, is held here. There are also comedy and film festivals throughout the year.

CULTURE
Between them the Crucible, the Lyceum and the Studio Theatre make up the biggest theatre district in the UK outside of London – making Sheffield a cultural hotspot and perfect for a city break. You can listen to arias by Opera North perform here, or catch a West End show on tour.

NATURE
There are 89 parks within Sheffield itself, including the Peace Gardens right in the city centre with its impressive water features. Sheffield is also on the edge of the Peak District National Park, an area of rugged beauty and a favourite escape for walkers.

Top Tip from SLH

If you’re wondering which celebrities hail from Sheffield, don’t miss the Walk of Fame in the city centre. It’s like Hollywood, Yorkshire-style.
