A superb collection of 16th-century houses in Santo Domingo’s colonial zone
Listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Ciudad Colonial is the historic centre of Santo Domingo. At its heart lies Casas del XVI hotel comprising a number of thoughtfully renovated properties dating back to the 16th century. Maintaining the houses’ original architecture, each one is individually decorated to reflect the area’s historical and cultural significance. Butler service, a pool, outdoor dining and a library are available in selected properties.
Each of the houses that currently make up Casas del XVI are both homely and stylish, featuring both local works of art, ancient Dominican artefacts and beautifully carved wood furniture. All of the properties have a central courtyard, perfect for an evening aperitif or outdoor dining, while a butler tends to guests’ every need. At Casa de los Mapas, the courtyard pool is the place for a refreshing afternoon dip.
