Casas Del XVI

Listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Ciudad Colonial is the historic centre of Santo Domingo. At its heart lies Casas del XVI hotel comprising a number of thoughtfully renovated properties dating back to the 16th century. Maintaining the houses’ original architecture, each one is individually decorated to reflect the area’s historical and cultural significance. Butler service, a pool, outdoor dining and a library are available in selected properties.

Each of the houses that currently make up Casas del XVI are both homely and stylish, featuring both local works of art, ancient Dominican artefacts and beautifully carved wood furniture. All of the properties have a central courtyard, perfect for an evening aperitif or outdoor dining, while a butler tends to guests’ every need. Explore the Old Town, rich in 16th century history, and its maze of tiny streets that reveal a wealth of historic treasures including the Cathedral of Santa María la Menor and Alcázar de Colón, a Gothic-Mudéjar style mansion where Diego Columbus, son of Christopher Columbus, reigned as viceroy in 1511. The Museo de las Casas Reales gives a real insight into the city’s early history. Following lunch, at Casas del XVI, stroll down El Conde, the pedestrianised Art Deco shopping street or head to Mercado Modelo to pick up some delightful handicrafts.
