Namia River Retreat
Hidden treasure in Hoi An on a magical river island where luxury meets mindfulness
Each villa at Namia has sunken bathtubs for the ultimate soak, lofty ceilings for a cool night’s sleep, and stylish décor in neutral tones. Spacious inside and out, your terrace leads to a private pool and dining area, while the Honeymoon Suite also has its own Jacuzzi and sauna. With all your comforts catered for and a stunning view of the river as it passes lazily by, there’s no need to venture far, but this retreat is worth exploring. Salute the sun with a morning yoga class, stroll to the wishing tree and whisper your hopes for the day, then make your way to The Merchant for a Vietnamese-style wake-up: a traditional (powerful) filter coffee.

While away a day by the pool, steam away your cares at the spa, or venture into Hoi An to explore its ancient streets and customs. A melting pot of culture, French colonial houses rub shoulders with Chinese tea houses and Vietnamese temples. The best way to explore is by canal, so hit the waterways with a local guide. Be sure to return at night as chains of swaying lanterns cast dazzling reflections on the river, then back to the resort for a cocktail in the calm of your villa.

Environmentally Conscious
Using mangroves as a retaining wall (instead of concrete reinforcements), Namia River Retreat fully regenerated an eroded islet quite literally from the ground up. Bio-climactic architecture was included in the building plans, the energy-efficient lighting throughout prioritises protecting the night sky, and the grounds are landscaped entirely with indigenous plants and a bio-pond to encourage birds, bees and butterflies to flourish naturally. Packaging is made from local banana leaves, straws are locally made from rice flour, and there are custom-designed water fountains around the resort for you to refill your recycled bottles. There are bamboo bicycles and electric buggies to borrow, alongside a complimentary shuttle-boat service to Hoi An’s central market. Wildlife conservation tours to the nearby Son Tra peninsula to visit the protected yellow-hair monkeys are also on offer.
Cultural Custodians
The hotel’s design and experiences are inspired by and immersed in local traditions and life by the river. The interiors are filled with handcrafted details by local artisans, whose work is displayed and available for purchase in the resort’s The Merchant retail store. You can also visit the workshops of local woodcarvers, potters, weavers, and bronzesmiths to learn more about the centuries-old creative processes. Guests are invited to join light rituals on a full moon to share good wishes and gratitude with the Hoi An community, and local storytellers often appear at dinners and cocktail pairings with folk tales passed down the generations. Conscious that the UNESCO-listed old town can be overtouristed, the resort encourages guests to visit and support other cultural sites.
Community Minded
Every element of Namia River Retreat is hyper-local — most of the staff live within 20km of the resort, the furniture was made by hand within a 50km radius, and fresh produce is sourced from nearby fishermen and farmers who are practising regenerative agriculture. Alongside the resort’s herb garden, the kitchen prepares traditional dishes using organic ingredients from Hoi An’s Tra Que Vegetable Village, as well as unique herbs foraged from the Cham Islands. You can join cooking classes with the chefs, and buy Vietnamese gifts like tea, coffee, spices, chocolate and honey from the resort’s own marketplace, thereby supporting small suppliers. The spa works closely with traditional herbalists, natural doctors and mindfulness experts from the region to develop and showcase Vietnamese Southern Herbology (Thuốc Nam).
Our Hotel
Wellbeing
Serenity is at the heart of the Namia experience, and to offer a stay that ensures peace of mind, the resort has a wellness programme that goes beyond the spa. Weaving in Vietnamese traditions, signature breathing and yoga classes will help you tap into a slower rhythm, or take part in a calming walk and meditation practice. A unique wishing tree ritual is a great way to start your day with positive intentions, then watch the glowing lantern ceremony for a slice of nighttime calm.
Experiences
Hop on a classic Vespa and explore Hoi An’s charms, from vibrant riverfront to peaceful countryside paddy fields. Feel the refreshing breeze as your journey takes you past traditional houses, Hoi An’s busy boatbuilding yard and various local craft workshops. Pause for a refreshing ‘phin’ filter coffee, then take in the tranquil landscapes and farmlands that surround the town. If boats have more appeal than bikes, the resort also offers basket boat paddling tours around the islet or can book you a spot on a sunset cruise.
