The Cellars-Hohenort

Not your garden variety country estate: sublime scenery and haute cuisine in ‘Cape Town’s Vineyard’

A historical manor with a modern edge, The Cellars-Hohenort is all about blending the old and the new with Table Mountain views. This oozing-with-elegance 17th-century manor makes an instant impression, standing proud in nine acres of simply stunning gardens. Make your entrance via a grove of Camphor trees, or the rose garden blooming with over 2,500 flowers.

Those that hear about Cellars-Hohenort on the grapevine also come for its fine wine collection. The Martini bar shakes (and stirs) things up, transforming from sophisticated cocktail spot by night to High Tea venue in the day. Or you can enjoy your pâtisserie in the Sun Lounge, Conservatory Terrace or Palm Arch for garden views. The Conservatory is also the spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner using produce picked from the hotel’s beautiful gardens.

The mix of true-to-its-roots heritage styling and contemporary creature comforts in the Cellars bedrooms set you up for a day of adventure. Play with the penguins on Boulders Beach. Take the family in a cable car up that mountain. Follow the Constantia Valley Wine Route, swim in Camps Bay, walk the waterfront and museum-hop in Cape Town… from The Cellars-Hohenort, the possibilities seem endless. And there’s always the hotel spa, for restoring sightseeing-weary muscles.

The Cellars-Hohenort

The greatest of outdoors

This hotel is a stepping stone for intrepid explorers to really get out in Africa. Table Mountain is in one direction, vineyards in another – and tracing the coast brings you to a beach that’s home to a colony of penguins. Walk above the canopy of Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Hike by the light of the moon to ‘Lion’s Head’, Table Mountain’s twin. Watch the wildflowers blossom in Cape Floral Kingdom. With its enchanted forest of faraway trees, secret doorways and ancient Camphor trees, The Cellars-Hohenort is proof that adventure starts at home.

The Cellars-Hohenort Gourmet

Gourmet behind glass

With its verdant setting in ‘Cape Town’s Vineyard’, dishes at The Conservatory incorporate fresh ingredients picked from the historic wine estate’s very own gardens wherever possible, including local fynbos. From Cape Malay rubbed line fish, and mushroom and lentil bobotie, to Springbok on the braai, the menu has something for everyone and the choice of three dining spaces – the main dining section, with stunning views of the historical garden with its Camphor trees; the breakfast room; and the terrace overlooking the garden.

Attention to detail

The gardens are immaculate. It must hold a world record for the largest Bird of Paradise on earth and a black flower I've never seen before. The backup generator is a sigh a relief. Great for business travelers who can continue uninterrupted and on Wi-Fi during blackouts.

Food And Drinks

South African culinary traditions inspire each of the Cellars-Hohenort distinctive restaurants. When it comes to The Garden, the clue is in the name. This light-filled dining room has a beautiful botanical setting, looking out across the Camphor trees. And, in a hotel set within ‘Cape Town’s Vineyard’, expect your food to be accompanied by a renowned wine selection.

The Conservatory

Served Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner At The Conservatory guests may expect an eclectic light and abundant menu featuring uncomplicated yet perfectly executed food served in the most idyllic garden setting. Guests may choose from three special locations - the main dining section with stunning views of our historical garden with its ancient Camphor trees - the breakfast room and the terrace overlooking the garden.

Spa

Wrapped in natural beauty, it’s little wonder the Fresh Wellness Spa at The Cellars-Hohenort takes its inspiration from the elements. Volcanic pebbles, smooth bamboo, African mud and shea butters turn treatments into sense-awakening experiences – whether it’s a Chinese Gua Sha facial massage or Rasul bathing ritual.
