Varnabas Museum Hotel has a certain mountain-like quality. Its modern edifice rises from the streets of Kathmandu, echoing the towering peaks surrounding the city. Guests ascend layers of luxury that culminate in the hotel’s pinnacle, a skyline-skimming pool.

Inside, Nepalese heritage takes pride of place. Each room and suite is a tour of the country’s diverse ethnicities, with decor inspired by the region’s three main communities. In a ‘Terai’ room, representing the plains, earthy tones and pottery set the scene. The middle floors give a nod to the hilly ‘Pahad’ region, where traditional wooden furniture and standalone baths give an opulent feel. Up once more to the ‘Himal’ suites, featuring the bold colours and lively patterns of the Sherpa aesthetic, complete with panoramic views and jacuzzi baths. A host of artefacts throughout each floor and an in-house museum give the hotel its name. From timeless copper implements to early expedition gear used by intrepid mountaineers, there’s a treasure trove of arts, crafts and history to discover.

New Luxury Hotel in Kathmandu

My stay at Varnabas Museum Hotel was exceptional! The traditional welcome, by the staff instantly made us feel special and safe. The hotel is close to the trendy Thamel district and airport.
