Barefoot luxury between lush jungle and white sands in captivating Koh Phi Phi

While southern Koh Phi Phi may be nirvana for partygoers, on the northern tip, life settles into a more tranquil pace. It’s here, beside beautiful Laem Tong beach, that you’ll find Zeavola Resort. At first glance, this boutique hotel has the appearance of a rustic Thai village. A closer look reveals a luxury retreat that will have you wishing you could call it home.

Wander through the tropical gardens to seek out your suite – either at the sand’s edge or nestled on the hillside. Drawing inspiration from traditional Thai houses, each is built from rich teak – and the hillside villas even have private pools. Lounge on a beach beanbag with a cocktail, and take in endless views of the Andaman Sea. Then book an afternoon at the spa for a massage and soothing soak in the steam baths. By night, Zeavola Resort offers two charming restaurants. Savour authentic Thai cuisine or gourmet seafood – topped off with spellbinding views.

Zeavola Resort

Environmentally Conscious

This plastic-free resort is making waves when it comes to protecting its remote island setting. Zeavola’s drinking water bottling plant and #refillmybottle water stations reduce single-use plastic bottles by 120,000 per year, while the complex reverse osmosis water system ensures all wastewater is reused in the resort’s jungle gardens – plus each cluster of four villas has its own sealed, closed catch-tank where water and solid waste is separated, earning recognition from Thailand’s Government Health Department as one of the country’s most impressive wastewater systems. Guests can swim chemical-free lengths in the fresh water pools thanks to the Enviroswim ES3 water purification system (the same system used by NASA space shuttles for on-board drinking water), which reduces a pool’s carbon footprint by lowering pump run-times by up to 50%, saving over 250,000 litres (in a pool of 150,000 litres) per year. From the organic, coconut-based, cruelty-free bathroom amenities which come in vibrant, locally made ceramics, to relocating Macaque monkeys to the nearby national park and placing birdwatching signs around the resort, the list of eco-initiatives goes on.

Zeavola Resort

Cultural Custodians

Inspired by the architecture of traditional Thai villages, the teak grass-roofed villas at Zeavola have been designed with local culture and heritage in mind – from the triangular cushions in each suite which invite guests to sit on the floor and enjoy a quiet moment of contemplation, to the cooling dark teakwood and ancient tamarind trees which shade the indoor-outdoor spaces from the brightest sun. At check-in, you might notice the red, yellow, and blue pavilions which envelope the sandy reception area, symbolising the colours of the Thai flag. Throughout the year, the resort encourages guests to take part in the country’s customary celebrations, which include Songkran – the Thai water festival – and Loy Krathong, the festival of light and love. Every festival is celebrated with a banquet of authentic Thai food and guests are guided through the story behind each dish – you can also delve into some of the recipes during Zeavola’s hands-on cooking classes.

Zeavola Resort

Community Minded

As the home to the entire team who work in the resort, Zeavola fosters a strong sense of family which extends to the local Chao Ley, who are known as ‘the people of the sea’. The majority of the Chao Ley are fishermen or coconut plantation workers who live in small houseboats known as kabang, and practise animism, the belief that animals, plants, places, and even words hold their own spiritual heart which links the island and the sea to their ancestors. The resort annually pledges to collect THB 80,000 which goes towards educational equipment for Chao Ley children, in addition to donating rice to the help feed the community and cleaning up Chong Kiew Beach and Nui Bay. Zeavola guests are invited to serve lunch to the Chao Ley each Friday at the Laem Tong primary school next to the resort, while swapping stories over Thai food. Executive Chef Satya and his culinary team have built longstanding relationships with the island’s fishing community to source the freshest fish and support the local supply chain, while purchasing baskets and reusable ice-boxes to transport perishable goods without plastic wrapping.

Would HIGHLY recommend if you're looking for a secluded beach resort!

We loved that it was very remote and secluded. The service was amazing. Having your personal cottage was perfect. The food was amazing. We also loved the spa.
