Introducing North Malé Atoll

The intimate beauty of North Malé Atoll lets you leave everyday life behind. By day, dip into the warm waters of the Indian ocean and as dusk falls, watch cinematic sunsets unfold across the horizon. This is a picturesque sanctuary where the world below the water is as vibrant as the culture above the surface.

Things to do

NATURE
The stunning coral reefs of North Malé Atoll put its richly diverse sea life centre stage. Look out for sea turtles, whale sharks and mantra rays. Or take a private cruise for an unforgettable sight of playful Spinner dolphins leaping through the air. Many boutique hotels have resident marine biologists who can provide a fascinating insight into the world beneath the surface.

WATER
Beyond snorkelling and scuba-diving, North Malé’s waters are a playground for adventurers. Enjoy the adrenaline rush of jet skiing or kitesurfing. Grab a paddle (and some sunscreen) and spend a leisurely afternoon exploring hidden beaches from a kayak. For something extra-memorable, try an evening parasail over the Indian Ocean and watch the skies turn from azure to blushing pink.

CULTURE
The larger inhabited islands of North Malé Atoll are well worth a visit to see traditional Maldivian ways of life. Discover local markets selling fresh produce and handmade souvenirs, including beautifully designed thundu kunaa, a type of handwoven mat. And on the traditional fishing island of Himmafushi you can watch local carpenters create the island’s unique dhoni boats.

Top Tip from SLH

Nothing beats a snorkelling trip to see the reef transform into a magical nocturnal world. Look out for octopuses and lionfish, which venture out after dark.
