Things to do
FOOD
In Argentina, meat eating is a national obsession. To sample the authentic steak and Malbec experience, head for one of the city’s many parillas (steak houses) and – for medium rare – ask for jugoso. Of course, as a major global capital Buenos Aires also boasts cuisine from around the world – from Japanese fine dining to Scandinavian smörgåsbord. It’s a culinary melting pot, given an added richness thanks to the excellent local produce.
CULTURE
Buenos Aires is one of South America’s great cultural hubs. There’s a thriving theatre scene, countless tango classes, and incredible galleries such as the classic Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and the modern MALBA. But much of the most memorable culture can be found on the city’s streets with murals on walls around town and exclusive galleries hidden off the high streets.
SHOPPING
You’ll find something for every wallet in Buenos Aires. For designer brands, visit the Avenida Alvear in Recoleta or seek out up-and-coming talent in the streets around Palermo Viejo. For a fascinating glimpse of local life, make sure you visit one of the flea markets. Just talk to the concierge in your luxury hotel to find out what’s happening and when.
