Introducing Lake Placid

From dogsled rides to invigorating hiking, there are plenty of ways to get around in Lake Placid. Bring your skiis or ice skates if you’re here in the winter – there’s lots of fun and adventure to be had. With golf, fly fishing and mountain biking available, Lake Placid seems to have sports on tap, and lots to tempt you from your luxury hotel room.

Things to do

SPORTS
Lake Placid is synonymous with the Winter Olympics, and the famous trouncing of the USSR ice hockey team by the home players. Winter athletes still train here, and you can watch figure skating, skiing and startling ski jumping during your stay.

NATURE
Lake Placid is set in the Adirondack National Park, with over 40 mountain peaks. If you’re a keen walker, trek to the summit of Whiteface Mountain where you’ll be able to see Vermont, New York and Canada – provided the visibility is good.

DAY TRIPS
Wilmington is just half an hour’s drive away and is well worth a visit. With a world-class trout stream, it’s ideal if you’re a keen fisherman, or if you simply like superb scenery.

Top Tip from SLH

If you’re hoping to fish, most of the Ausable River is a catch-and-release stretch. You’ll have to put back anything you hook, and use artificial flies only.
