Things to do
SNOW
Bring your mittens and a sense of adventure, because Vail’s slopes are a favourite of skiers and snowboarders. The season runs from November to April, and diverse terrain means there’s plenty for beginners, intermediates and experts. Vail's back bowls are a particular draw, renowned for their expansive, treeless terrain and endless off-piste potential. Vail Village meanwhile offers Alpine-style apres ski, luxury dining, shopping and entertainment.
NATURE
The Colorado Rockies are home to a vast array of wildlife and stunning scenery. Hidden amid the peaks, valleys, rivers and ridgelines that surround Vail are elk and deer, black bears, marmots, fox and coyote. Golden eagles and hawks are often seen soaring above the slopes, and Gore Creek, which flows through the resort, is so flush with trout it’s designated as a Gold Medal Stream.
SPORTS
After the ski season ends Vail still has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Hitch a ride on Gondola One for scenic mountain views and a head start on summer hikes, or hop on a bike and discover the mountain’s thrilling downhill trails. Nearby Red Cliff offers challenging outdoor climbing, while beginners can try a guided experience. Also nearby, the Eagle River provides an exhilarating ride for white water rafting, with waters at their peak in late spring and early summer.
