Introducing Kokkedal

As you head north from Copenhagen, the bustle of the city gives way to quaint seaside villages, grand palaces and mile after mile of natural beauty. Just 30 minutes from the Danish capital, Kokkedal gives you the best of both worlds. Explore the wild side of Denmark with its blissful beaches and gorgeous open countryside, then return to one of the best boutique hotels and finest golf courses in Europe.

Things to do

ART
A short drive up the coast brings you to the world-class Louisiana Museum of Art. After browsing works by Giacometti, de Kooning, Picasso and Warhol, relax in the sculpture garden or – in the summer months – take a dip at the museum beach. Open until 10pm Tuesday to Friday, this is also a wonderful place to come in the evening when the light is at its most magical.

HISTORY
Kokkedal is just a stone’s throw from many of Denmark’s most spectacular and atmospheric castles. Head north to storm Kronborg Castle in Helsingør, famed as Hamlet’s home in the eponymous play. Venture west to the palatial Frederiksborg Castle. Or live like a king or queen at the mid-18th century Kokkedal Castle Copenhagen with its spa, restaurant and golf course.

SPORT
Whether you’re sailing, riding, kite surfing or golfing, Denmark is a breath of fresh air. Around Kokkedal, you’ll find some exceptional golf courses including the Kokkedal Golf Club – a varied, rolling parkland course. For even more variety, there’s Rungsted Golf Club, Copenhagen Golf Club and Simons Golf Club.

Top Tip from SLH

Culture and nature go hand in hand at the nearby Karen Blixen Museum. The writer – famous for Out of Africa – lived here before and after her adventures in Nairobi.
