Things to do
BEACH
Whether you like long, bustling stretches of sand or get-away-from-it-all coves, Propriano is a beach-lover’s paradise. Relax beside the ocean on quiet Sampieru or lively Plage du Lido. Or take to the water on a sailing boat, snorkel and fins at the ready. A little further afield, Campomoro boasts a pretty golden beach looked over by an old Genoese watchtower.
HISTORY
Around thirty minutes outside Propriano is Filitosa. The ruins that pepper the land here are 8,000 years old and tell a fascinating tale of ancient island life. There are Torréen monuments and Menhir sculptures to peruse, as well as ceramic artefacts and weapons excavated over the years. If there’s time, head out the next day and venture south of Propriano. Here you can stroll around the mysterious standing stones at Cauria.
WATER
Fringed by beautiful blue seas, it’s little surprise Propriano is a hub for watersports. You could learn to sail or kayak along the coast, stopping to explore hidden bays. Play James Bond and hire a speedboat. Or don some scuba gear and escape beneath the surface – the clear, calm waters make this an excellent place for diving. Inland, the region’s rivers have become popular swimming spots.
