Introducing Grikos

Leave the crowds behind and escape to Grikos – a small fishing village in a stunning setting on Patmos. Its sandy beach, bordered by a tuft of Tamarisk trees, feels like an undiscovered treasure. Sit on the sands and look out at the string of emerald islands in the Aegean, as colourful boats sail by. In Grikos, a boutique break is about truly getting away from it all.

Things to do

DAY TRIPS
The benefit of being on a tiny island is that it’s easy to cover a lot of ground. Grikos is the ideal starting point for exploring more of Patmos.
Starting from the village, trace one of the old coastal paths. You could find yourself walking all the way to Chora or Scala, with beautiful views to accompany you.

BEACHES
A stay in Grikos puts arguably the best beach in Patmos at your feet. The village’s gently curving bay, lapped by calm seas, is simply idyllic. Soak up the sun as you watch the fishermen return to shore. Or retreat to the trees that line the sand to relax in the shade.

LANDMARKS
If you wander along the coastline, it won’t be long before you spot Kalikatsou. A local landmark, at first sight it’s simply a large rock that separates Grikos Bay from Petra. But get closer and you’ll see the mysterious hollows and steps made by hermits centuries ago.

Top Tip from SLH

Hop aboard a boat to Tragonissi – or ‘Ram Island’. Home only to goats, it’s the place to find a private stretch of sand and enjoy glorious views of Grikos.
