LUXURY HOTELS IN Salamanca

Introducing Salamanca

Known as La Dorada – the Golden City – because of its the beautiful sandstone buildings, Salamanca is steeped in history. Plaza Mayor is one of the most perfectly proportioned squares in Europe, and as this is a compact city you’ll be able to explore everywhere on foot.

Things to do

FOOD
Salamantinos make the most of lunch, and restaurants can get busy between 1pm and 3pm. Come the evening, it’s all about tapas and snacks. You’ll find the best tapas bars on Van Dyck Street.

WATER
Salamanca is on the river Tormes, and one enjoyable way to see the sights on a city break is by canoe or paddle boat. You can hire boats on the river opposite the Cathedral.

LANDMARKS
Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in the world, and the ancient buildings are studded throughout the town. The House of Shells is also worth a visit. This 15th-century building is decorated with 350 shells.

Top Tip from SLH

If you’re a keen shopper, don’t forget that the Siesta means boutiques will be shut between 2pm and 5pm. Many Salamantinos choose to shop in the early evenings.
