Thalwil blossomed in the 18th century, leaving behind picturesque squares dotted with impressive baroque architecture such as the Schlossgut Horgenberg. If you’re in search of contemporary culture, look up ThalwilerHofKunst. This innovative arts organisation hosts mobile exhibitions at its Art Boxes, dotted throughout Thalwil, as well as more fixed exhibitions at historic landmarks. And you’re also just half an hour away from Zurich’s galleries, from the old masters at the Kunsthaus to the abstract collection at Haus Konstruktiv.

NATURE
With Lake Zurich on one side and the mountains behind, Thalwil puts the beauty of the Alps at your feet. If you’re here in the warmer months, bring sturdy shoes to tackle trails that lead to spectacular views. Enjoy a gentle woodland walk on the Pfannenstiel trail, explore gorges and waterfalls on the Erlenbach-Küsnacht path. Or if you’re up for a challenge, tackle the classic Lägern Ridge hike to Baden.

SPORTS
Make the most of Thalwil’s setting by getting out on the water. If you’re a keen sailor, why not keep it traditional and spend the day cruising the lake by sailboat. In summer, there are plenty of sheltered places along the shore where you can dip into Lake Zurich for a swim.
