Bodrum was once a small fishing village, and the original simple cottage architecture still abounds. Writers and artists have moved in, making this a cultural hotspot, and there is plenty of exciting nightlife too, all with the backdrop of the beautiful Aegean Sea.
NIGHTLIFE
The people of Bodrum like to party and there are plenty of nightclubs in the area. One advertises itself as the largest outdoor club in the world. You can also dance into the night on a boat that sails out to a floodlit part of the harbour.
SEA
The sea near the castle is roped off for swimmers, and you can hire a private boat for a trip around the bay. You’ll also find plenty of diving clubs, and there is good windsurfing to be had at Vass nearby.
LANDMARKS
Bodrum Castle towers over the city, and is now the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Another site worth visiting is the well-preserved Amphitheatre – the distinctive white windmills of the area feature on many postcards.
Head to the marina if you like fine dining – there are plenty of smart restaurants to choose from and you can admire the luxury yachts as you eat.
