Things to do

NATURE
While in Cumbria, it would be impossible to miss out on exploring the Lake District National Park. The sweeping valleys and famous mountains – such as Scafell Pike – may be the stars, but it’s worth looking a little closer to spot the animals that call the region home. Stroll through the woods and you might spy rare Red Squirrels. And when walking beside the lakes and rivers, keep your eyes open for otters playing in the water.

LANDMARKS
This is border country – a land where countless battles have been won and lost. Walk the western-most stretch of Hadrian’s Wall, where Centurions patrolled the northern reaches of the Roman Empire. Spend an afternoon at Muncaster Castle – a lavish medieval pile with beautiful landscaped gardens. Or take a ride on the Ravensglass and Eskdale Railway to see the epic expanse of Eskdale valley open out before you.

SPORT
With so much rugged natural beauty on offer, Cumbria is a dream for those looking for adventure in the great outdoors. Scramble up high fells, or mountain bike through valleys and forests. Kayak on rivers or glide across Lake Windermere in a sailing boat. And, if you’re feeling brave, why not take to the skies with a private paragliding lesson?
