Introducing Melton Mowdray

This market town is famous for the locally-made flavoursome pork pies, and this is the home of Stilton cheese, too. But it’s not all about food in Melton Mowbray. There are traditional markets, historic buildings and lots of activities to entertain little ones.

Things to do

HISTORY
Burrough Hill is an Iron Age fort that sits around four miles away from the centre of Melton Mowbray. Although there are no building remains here, it’s still a worthwhile visit, as the mound gives you an exceptional view of the surrounding Leicestershire countryside.

FAMILIES
If the children are getting restless, take them Twinlakes Park where they’ll soon burn off some energy. Within this 70-acre park you’ll find lots of rides and attractions to keep them amused.

LANDMARKS
Melton Mowbray is nestled in the Vale of Belvoir, and Belvoir Castle itself is just a short journey away. This Regency building has stunningly elegant interiors as well as beautiful gardens that seem to be a natural amphitheatre carved out of the land.

Top Tip from SLH

You can find everything from clothes to household goods at the market on a Tuesday, while there’s a food market in the town centre on Friday mornings.
