Things to do
HISTORY
Follow in the footsteps of Elizabeth I all the way to Charlecote Park. This 16th-century estate is filled with lavish Victorian furnishings, and the surrounding grounds were inspired by Capability Brown’s designs. Ragley Hall is similarly grand, but has lots for little ones to explore including a maze, a lake for kayaking and a woodland walk to follow. Alternatively, step inside for a guided tour of the sumptuous state rooms.
SPORT
After a day applauding the jousting at Warwick Castle, spend the evening cheering on jockeys at nearby Warwick Racecourse. It’s one of the oldest courses in the country with a proud heritage. Then, swap four legs for four wheels and enter the world of British classic cars at the Heritage Motor Centre. Tear through the outdoors with an expert driver in the Drive Zone, or splash out on a private vintage sports car for the day and travel the countryside in true style.
ART
Combine a country retreat with the best bits of a city break and spend a day at Compton Verney. This award-winning art gallery has collections that rival those of the capital, all housed in a Palladian mansion house set within Capability Brown parkland. From Tudor portraits to Chinese bronzes and British folk art, there’s an eclectic mix of artwork to enjoy.
