We have stayed at Hotel Ranga a few times over the past few years and were therefore delighted when it became part of the SLH Portfolio. The hotel is a very special space - it feels so welcoming and warm and just a lovely place to stay. The hotel staff are all so friendly, every single one of them, Read more[SPLIT]Read lessand we really like how the owner and manager take it in turns to speak to everyone each evening at dinner. They are so nice, very knowledgeable and it adds a very personal touch to your stay. This time we treated ourselves to a Master Suite having stayed in Junior Suites before. We had the Antarctic Suite which was beautifully appointed with windows on 3 sides and 2 balconies with views across the river and towards Mt Hekla. The bed was super comfy and there was plenty of seating. The bath is in the room and rather novel - guarded by 2 penguins! The main bathroom is well appointed. Food at Hotel Ranga is just super - breakfasts are buffet style with an a la carte menu available too which is included in the cost. Dinners are simply outstanding - beautifully presented and the food is quite delicious. There is a nice bar area too which has a lovely relaxed feeling. The location of the hotel is excellent - a fairly easy 1 hr 45 mins drive along the N1 from Keflavik Airport - and so convenient for a number of sites in the Golden Circle. We did have bad weather one afternoon and the N1 was closed in both directions until the early hours of the next day - that happens in Iceland and then you are a bit stuck! All in all, this hotel is very special indeed and I always feel sad when we check out. I am sure we will return again and again. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It never fails to please and the management have got it just right in every respect.
