Art is also a guiding light at the hotel, its collection of rooms and suites bearing the style signature of artist Vittorio Corsini, whose work explores the idea of living through sculptures and site-specific projects. Exposed wooden beams and shutters open a window into the building’s past, while sleek bathrooms and carefully placed accents shift into a more contemporary space. In some rooms you’ll have your own private garden. In suites you may wake to vineyard views – or wind down to sunset vistas. Step into landscape and visit the Mastrojanni winery, for daily terroir tours and tastings – many of which can carry through to your dinner at Mastrojanni Restaurant. If you prefer something a little more informal and intimate, have the hotel set up a Merenda Toscana picnic beside the vines. An afternoon beside the parasol-lined hotel pool is the perfect way to cool off.
A hotel so intertwined with its setting mean there are so many journeys of discovery to take from here. Drive a few minutes to reach medieval-made-modern Castelnuovo dell’Abate and its sacred Romanesque sites. Go deeper into the region’s spiritual side at the Benedictine Abbey of Sant’Antimo – and into the artistic 1990s at Seggiano sculpture park. Further afield, the dormant Monte Amiata volcano has cooled off enough to become a winter ski zone. Or take the thermal waters at Bagno Vignoni, a little over half an hour away from Mastrojanni Relais. If you make it to Pienza, a living gallery of Renaissance art and architecture, be sure to stay for sunset.
Enjoy your stay!
