Matachica Resort & Spa
Matachica Resort & Spa will be closed for the season for the month of September.
A perfectly private retreat between reef and rainforest in Belize
Matachica Resort takes its ‘private by nature’ mantra seriously. Thatched casitas and villas are arranged like a traditional village and blend into the landscape, with personal verandas giving you front row seats to soul-stirring views. This beach-meets-jungle setting is part of Ambergris Caye, a protected slice of paradise that’s home to one of the world’s biggest barrier reefs.
Whether you spend your days here on land or sea, every element of Matachica is inspired by the Caye’s natural beauty. Arrive by speedboat. See the beauty beneath the waves on a diving adventure. And taste the best of Belize at Mambo, the resort’s celebrated open-air restaurant – or share a few casual bites at Mambo Bistro, the hotel’s newly launched light fare eatery, and cocktails at Danny’s Bar that’s wrapped around a tree trunk. The hotel staff can also arrange romantic private dining on and around the pier, perfectly timed for the sunset. After all, this is a just-for-grown-ups escape.

Activities at Matachica are designed to get hearts racing. You could kayak or paddle-board in the calm waters, take a guided scuba or snorkelling tour, or simply dip in and out of the infinity pool and hot tub. Take things up a notch by swimming fin to fin at Shark Ray Alley, or float above Mexico Rocks where turtles will be your ocean playmates. For those who prefer dry land, jump on one of the hotel’s complimentary bicycles and explore northern Ambergris Caye.

Our Hotel

Ready to alfres-go
Mambo and newly launched Mambo Bistro – a casual beachfront dining experience with a light fare menu - rewrite the alfresco dining experience. Mambo Bistro’s unique take on soups, salads, and sandwiches includes fresh, homemade bread from the hotel’s new in-house bakery. Mambo’s reimagined dining room menu includes elevated, seasonal dishes featuring local vegetables from sister property GAÏA Riverlodge’s organic garden and fresh seafood. This open-air restaurant lets the Caribbean Sea air wash over you – and a scattering of tables on the nearby pier let the sunset really shine. Meanwhile, when it comes to pudding, the chocolate soufflé is a signature – perfect for dinners for two. Have it served on your casita’s private terrace for a fine (dining) romance.
Serenity by the shore
Tropical birdsong provides the soundtrack at Matachica’s Jade Spa. It’s an instantly relaxing spot for everything from tranquillity massages to salt scrubs – all using natural ingredients from Belizean land (and sea). Try the Mayan Coffee Scrub and Chocolate Wrap that uses almond oil from the mountains, fresh coffee for exfoliation, raw cocoa to boost radiance and a coconut milk bath to finish. Pure bliss.
Down at the coast. Up in the sky.
Matachica is a gateway to fishing excursions, cave tubing adventures, zip lining and helicopter rides. While sky-high, you may even spot the reef’s iconic Blue Hole, said to be visible from space. The Angel Falls day trip could see you taking a short flight to Belize City, before an SUV ride to Angel Falls. The best way to immerse yourself in this stunning environment – and see Belize’s colourful plants and tropical wildlife up close – is to abseil down the side of the waterfall. All 425 feet of it. Be sure to bring a towel. Our rooms

SLH Club Reviews
Beautiful and serene
We enjoyed the remote location of the facility, and how helpful the staff was in answering any questions and arranging excursions. We really felt like we were on our own little island. The staff was truly kind, helpful, and friendly. We are already looking forward to returning.
