Oasyhotel
Hidden retreat in Tuscany, where conservation meets luxury
There are no cars on site, so a convenient shuttle is on hand to carry you the last part of the climb through the breathtaking Pistoia Apennines. Emerging from a winding track, the trees part to reveal alpine lodges scattered across the mountainside. Each lodge is spacious and airy, with expansive windows and a pared-back design that lets nature do the talking. Revel in the views from your private veranda, where complimentary e-bikes await to be taken on a spin through the forest. Once settled in, head over to the stone-built farmhouse for a traditional Italian lunch, or stop by the bar for an authentic negroni.

Actively sustainable luxury hotels

Environmentally Conscious
This former hunting lodge sits within the Oasi Dynamo Nature Reserve, working in partnership with WWF Oasi Italia to conserve and rewild WWF-affiliated areas in Limestre through traditional, non-intensive agricultural land management and scientific research. Guests are encouraged to explore the car-free reserve on electric bicycles, with mapped routes for mountain biking and hiking through dense forests, home to rare plant species and wildlife (such as deer and wolves), while the hotel’s local geo-guides are on hand for eco-conscious outdoor excursions and educational nature tours. The lodges are air conditioning-free, have underfloor heating (from a sustainable woodchip boiler), and feature fully recyclable amenities including plastic-free water flasks (there are filling stations around the hotel). The zero-kilometre concept restaurants are supplied by the organic Dynamo Oasis farm, vegetable garden and orchards, and the chefs forage for seasonal ingredients in the surrounding woodland.

Cultural Custodians
Oasyhotel is a hub of cultural activity, regularly hosting a variety of spectacular outdoor events throughout its woods, lakes, and meadows, as well as its visitor centre. Classical music and opera concerts are held during the summer, as well as stargazing sessions at the local Pistoia Mountains Astronomical Observatory. Guests can join wildlife photography workshops, open air yoga classes, and trekking tours in search of wolf traces while learning about Tuscany’s Apennine wolf packs. Anthropologists and environmental writers are invited to discuss the relationship between humans and the natural world with hotel guests during book presentations, art performances, and educational talks throughout the year, and during the hotel’s annual NatureFest weekend. Food lovers can also get hands on with traditional Tuscan techniques in a cooking class held in a characterful stone farmhouse, learning about the homegrown ingredients and the provenance of each plate.

Community Minded
In collaboration with WWF, Oasi Dynamo offers educational summer camps for local children, with an outdoor activity programme of hiking, orienteering, tree-climbing, canoeing, and nature workshops. Additionally, the hotel runs an ongoing outreach project with local schools to promote environmental awareness through trips to the nature reserve, as well as overnight stays for more in-depth study groups. Alongside its farm-grown produce, Oasyhotel exclusively sells Oasi Dynamo FoodCo products, a social purpose company that markets local goods from the land surrounding the nature reserve, from jams and juices to honey, olive oil, and pasta and biscuits. The hotel employs local guides and works with members of the farming community on its array of authentic experiences, including bee-keeping and meeting the cows followed by traditional cheese-making.

Wellbeing Collection:
Conservation retreat in Tuscany where wellbeing comes with a cultural twist
Pure silence reigns at this car-free 1,000-hectare wilderness reserve in the Apennine Mountains near Florence. Setting a seductively slow pace, the resort encourages a profound bond with nature, fostering the headspace and positivity that form the foundation for better health. Feel-good, nature-based wellbeing options await around every corner: trails of scented Douglas fir and white abbot woodlands are lined with site-specific sculptures and installations by internationally renowned artists and offer next-level forest bathing, while the estate’s crystal-clear, minty-green lake is the perfect setting for wild swimming.
Days might begin with a yoga class in a hilltop wildflower meadow and end with a meditative late-night forest walk, searching out stars and constellations in the uninterrupted skies above. Spa treatments are grounded in nature too, celebrating the earth, water, air, and sun. Using oils and creams that are local and 100% organic, these treatments, in the hands of the resort's skilled therapists, act as a release valve for 21st-century stresses. For a total immersion, opt for a massage on the wooden platform tucked beneath the willow trees, with birdsong and the rustle of leaves serving as the ultimate relaxing soundtrack. Every aspect of wellbeing here is choreographed to heighten all five senses and gently usher the way to a complete reset.

A wonderful place fully immersed in nature.
I loved to walk in the woods with a guide. The organized nature exploration activities are excellent. The staff and the restaurant service are also outstanding. The lodges are furnished in a simple yet elegant style. And I must say that seeing the fireflies was a truly moving experience.
