Actively sustainable luxury hotels

Environmentally Conscious
Perched along Crete’s serene northeast coast, this visionary retreat operates entirely on renewable energy, has phased out fossil fuels, and recycles 100% of its treated wastewater for its flourishing gardens. The grounds are a living ecosystem, thoughtfully planted with native, drought-resistant flora to support biodiversity and pollinators. Through a partnership with Bee for Planet, the hotel has adopted 25 beehives, supporting over 500,000 bees that help pollinate more than 2.1 billion flowers annually, an initiative that sustains ecosystems while empowering local beekeepers. Within the hotel grounds, gardens have been transformed into edible and ornamental sanctuaries, filled with xerophytic and flowering plants designed to attract and nourish pollinators. The resort has eliminated single-use plastics and sources nearly all produce locally or from its own Bostani organic garden.

Cultural Custodians
Phaea Blue is a soulful immersion into the cultural rhythm of Crete. The hotel’s architecture honours traditional island vernacular, while interiors are adorned with handmade ceramics, woven textiles, and marble pieces crafted by local artisans. Collaborations with the Benaki Museum and immersive experiences like village tours and the Phaea Farmers Feast connect guests to the island’s living traditions, from heritage music to heirloom recipes. One standout experience is sailing aboard a traditional wooden caique across Mirabello Bay to Spinalonga, a former Venetian fortress and later a leper colony, and the setting for Victoria Hislop’s novel, ‘The Island’. Anchoring this cultural narrative is The Blue Door Taverna, housed in a restored fisherman’s cottage, where guests dine on the waterfront on dishes prepared with ingredients sourced straight from the sea.

Community Minded
What sets Phaea Blue apart is its deep-rooted commitment to people as much as place. Over 85% of the team is recruited locally, with programs like Phaea Farmers empowering staff to cultivate and sell their own organic produce. Guests savour these harvests at garden feasts, bridging farm and fork in the most intimate way. Village walks to nearby Plaka and Elounda are encouraged, guiding guests into the heart of local life through shopfronts, tavernas, and markets — keeping tourism revenue within the community. Culinary and wine experiences, including olive oil tastings and traditional cooking sessions, are hosted by local families and producers, ensuring food culture becomes a form of direct support. With over 30 Greek artisan partnerships, donations to community organisations, and a mental health-boosting book club, Phaea Blue doesn’t just reside in its community — it uplifts it.
Our Hotel

Anchors Aweigh
Embark on a Greek odyssey on board the hotel’s beautifully crafted caique that sets sail from the Phaea Blue jetty. This traditional boat skims the aquamarine Aegean on passages through time, exploring Elounda’s hidden coves, skirting Spinalonga Island and dropping anchor at Kolokytha for a BBQ on the beach. See the sun rise above the mountains or watch it dip below the horizon on a romantic voyage, champagne in hand. Or immerse in maritime and culinary culture with a Cretan picnic, best enjoyed on a serene bay.

Farm to feast
From garden to gastronomy, the Phaea Farmers’ Feast Pop Up takes guests on a culinary journey. This memorable dining experience celebrates home-grown, hand-picked organic produce, with menus that capture the season’s – and that day’s – best ingredients. Expect deliciously fresh dishes rooted in Cretan heritage, and the sun-warmed land that surrounds the hotel.

Independent Minds: Agapi & Costantza Sbokou
Crete is a myth-steeped land of natural wonders and cultural treasures, and across the sparkling waters of Mirabello Bay from the storied island of Spinalonga, sisters Agapi and Costantza Sbokou are reimagining their family’s beachside hotel into a smaller, more intimate boutique offering. Phāea Blue immerses guests in a timeless Greek world of traditional experiences, authentic cuisine, and thoughtful artistry, from the island-inspired interiors and homegrown ingredients through to the genuine warmth of every staff member (who greet and treat you like extended family).

We loved everything ! Exceptional Staff, Food, Location ... simply gorgeous!
The Farmers Feast was a dazzling display of local, fresh, inspired sustainable dishes. Blue Door, similarly a fab eating experience. The whole of the Blue Palace staff made the stay memorable, nothing was too much trouble and they all seemed genuinely happy !
