We stayed 7 wonderful nights at Casa Branca. The setting is really magical -- beautiful gardens complemented by award winning architecture. Great location: 25 min walk or short taxi ride to center while staying in a peaceful and relaxing setting. We did hear some noise from the corridor or terrace but never at inconvenient hours. Guests and staff are very respectful. We mixed our stay with time at the hotel enjoying the many facilities (as it was difficult to leave!) and exploring Madeira (hikes (via Free Spirit, touring, whale watching (skip in winter)). Many thanks to Golete, Ruben & Vitor for suggesting & arranging our outings. The breakfasts were fabulous -- lots of fresh fruits, salads, breads, pastries & hot items to order. We did eat in the restaurant for 2 dinners but felt it was too formal for our tastes. Easy to try other local options (highly recommend Kampo & Akua).

Our Premium Room was great, spacious, comfortable (sitting area with sofa and armchair), walk-in closet area, large bathroom with separate shower, and an outside garden deck with a large chaise-longue and a garden chair. All the staff up to the executive level are excellent. Availability, kindness and smiles are de rigueur, from Reception to Housekeeping, Food and Beverage and Management. Everyone was polite, friendly and knowledgeable and the staff couldn't do more for us. The staff were very patient with my attempts at speaking Portuguese, even though most of them are fluent in more than one language. It has been my experience in other hotels that the staff would rather just speak English Read more[SPLIT]Read lessto save time, but I was never made to feel silly about trying. They also added little touches, like a bottle of fizz in our room, when they found out it was our anniversary. I even saw them sing Happy Birthday to another guest. Lovely staff from reception to restaurant to house-keeping.
