The tale of the whale...

Hermanus is famous for being the place to see the Southern Right Whale, which comes to the warm waters of Walker Bay between June and December. The Marine’s stunning clifftop location puts you right in their territory. Spy the gentle giants from your room or the beautiful clifftop walk right outside the hotel. Or head out onto the high seas for a chance to get closer to these magnificent creatures. The hotel is also the perfect place to glimpse dolphins, seals and the African penguin. If you’re feeling brave enough to tick off the entire Big Five, ask the staff about cage-diving with Great White Sharks.

Head Chef Tronette Dippenaar to showcases the impressive bounty of the Overberg, ensuring that the focus is always on local flavours and fresh ingredients. The spacious dining room allows guests to observe the chefs in their element in the open kitchen, while a separate restaurant section with magnificent ocean views is perfect for small group bookings.

Whether you feel like a quick bite or a leisurely dining experience, you will find it at Origins. Starters focus on fresh seafood, followed by section dedicated to a variety of fresh, healthy salads. Main courses are divided into specialties from The Sea and The Land – with each ingredient reflecting our surroundings. Rounding off the menu are a selection of mouth-watering desserts and artisanal cheeses of the region.

The perfect way to start your South African sojourn

Arrival welcome, room upgrade and fabulous fine dining with ever smiling faces. Every day was as comfortable as ever, including what turned out to be 'reserved' personalised parking adjacent to the main entrance. The Pavilion

Served Meals: Breakfast The Pavilion serves as the picturesque breakfast room at The Marine. The restaurant features an edgy black-and-white decor reminiscent of the roaring 1920s allowing guests to start their day in the most elegant of ways. Guests can sit inside or take their pick from two al fresco options either in our courtyard by the pool or on the outside pavilion overlooking Walker Bay.

Spa

Though it would be hard not to feel invigorated by the ocean breeze alone at The Marine, its spa is truly revitalising. Recharge with a Black Pearl facial or a couples’ massage if romance is in the air. Or, if you fancy a swim, choose from two saltwater pools – one in the hotel grounds, the other a unique marine ‘tidal’ pool just above the ocean.
