Stunning building & grounds

We had a lovely large bedroom despite booking the cheapest room. After a wonderful walk in the extesnive grounds we enjoyed a drink at the bar set in the library. Everything oozed elegance and cosiness. Breakfast was great, cooked to order. We booked the tasting menu for dinner, while the food was delicious, Read more[SPLIT]Read lesswe expected each course to be explained. Lovely hotel with excellent leisure facilities in a beautiful location.

The extensive gardens and grounds and super swimming pools. The arrangement and management of breakfast though, needs to be improved, as the available facilities can be too easily overwhelmed by the number of resident guests, leading to queuing for a table and buffet shortages!

Lovely getaway All Too Short

My room was beatifully-appointed with double-aspect windows overlooking the grounds. I did not want to leave this hotel. The Oak Room is a lovely restaurant. The Breakfast Menu could do with additional hot food options: e.g. poached haddock, kedgeree. Overall, the waiting staff in the restaurant were Read more[SPLIT]Read lessgood. More staff would be needed on the terraces to keep orders flowing and tables cleared. There are one or two exceptionally good waitresses who are charming and considerate. The reception rooms are well furnished and spacious, easily accommodating groups of guests.

This is an amazing hotel

The SLH benefits were: early check-in, late checkout at 2 pm, much-upgraded room to a suite. All the staff are warm and welcoming. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The outdoor pool is heated and large enough to enjoy. Highly, highly recommended.

A breath of normality

Lovely grounds, staff not just friendly but clearly happy. Reasonable precautions so having to book time for breakfast and restrictions on use of outside pool. Good sized room and well equipped; minor quibble e bath. Handrails welcome but still bit difficult for the elderly. Ditto re breakfast - served Read more[SPLIT]Read lesson cold plates. Stunning gardens, the property itself could use some love.

Spa area is very outdated, worn out and shabby. The outside pool area was very nice though. The gardens surrounding the property are absolutely stunning, make sure to take time for a long stroll. All in all, the property could use a bit of love and attention to detail (eg. clear out stained dining room Read more[SPLIT]Read lesschairs from stairways that the guests are using).

Always a great experience

Every time I stay at this hotel (almost always on business), I always wish that I could go there more often. From the moment you pull up in the car park to the time you leave, you always have the impression that the staff care about each and every guest.
