Completely carbon-neutral and plastic-free, Valsana Hotel Arosa is heated and cooled by an innovative ice battery. This future-forward temperature converter is combined with a sophisticated heat recovery system, which means the self-sufficient hotel runs without any need for fossil fuels. The onsite green team implements eco-friendly practices in line with the hotel’s ISO and Green Globe certifications, and encourages guests to explore the valley using complimentary mountain bikes, the local bus, and mapped-out hiking routes. Pure alpine drinking water is sourced from natural springs, and the hotel partners with myclimate to rewild drained moorlands throughout Switzerland.

Cultural Custodians

Swiss mountain design elements are woven throughout the hotel (including original wooden panels which have been salvaged and restored from the old Valsana property), with works by local artists on display and available to purchase. Natural alpine materials like wood, stone and glass in the rooms create an authentic chalet atmosphere, and the beds are topped with Elky 100% natural fibre mattresses. The hotel contributes towards the local Heimatmuseum’s heritage projects, which is housed in Innerarosa’s oldest house, while supporting and attending village markets, community festivals, and cultural events across the year through Arosa Kultur. You can also learn how to play the alphorn, forage and build cairns while hiking with expert guides.

Community Minded

Valsana Hotel Arosa recruits its team from nearby villages and offers apprenticeships and training programmes for locals looking to learn hospitality skills. To encourage sporting activities at local schools, the hotel sponsors Arosa Ski Club (including the kids’ academy), and runs the Moving Mountains programme for guests to visit regional artisans and join curated excursions in the Schanfigg valley (the Arosa Bear Santuary and its educational trail is a highlight). These include food tours and cheese tastings at local dairy farms, which provide fresh, organic produce for the hotel’s Twist Restaurant alongside other Swiss suppliers. Valsana’s staff also join the community for annual clean-up days to keep the valley pristine.
