Blending rugged mountain landscapes with world-class vineyards and a vibrant, cosmopolitan culture.

Things to do

WINE
From fruity Cabernet Sauvignons and bold, red Malbecs, to fresh, zesty white wines, including Chardonnay and the native Torrontés –Mendoza’s rich, fertile land is home to over 1,500 wineries. Visit renowned family vineyards in the Uco Valley or Luján de Cuyo, where tastings come paired with perfectly cooked Argentinian steak and stunning mountain views. A guided bike tour is another good way to explore boutique bodegas, such as the Benegas or Finca Decero wineries, and sip vintages rarely found elsewhere.

CULTURE
Stroll along the wide, leafy streets of Mercado Central, past modern and art deco buildings – stopping off at eateries for baked empanadas. Check out the contemporary masterpieces in the subterranean Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno. And for a glimpse into the province’s colonial past under Spanish rule, visit the Museo del Área Fundacional. When night falls. Mendoza buzzes with local tango shows and rock concerts. And if you’re here in March, the Fiesta Nacional de la Vendimia is a lively wine harvest festival that puts on parades and performances.

ACTIVITIES
There are plenty of adventures to enjoy in Mendoza’s vast and varied desert terrain. Trek by foot or on horseback along dramatic trails and the scenic backroads of Mount Aconcagua – the highest peak in the western hemisphere. Ski down the snowy Las Leñas slopes in winter. Raft the roaring Mendoza River, or take a hot, soothing dip in the thermal Cacheuta Spa pools. Another popular daytrip, north of the city, is the spectacular Villavicencio nature reserve that lends its name to Argentina's premium mineral water.
