Introducing Bintan Island

A secluded island to the south of Singapore, Bintan Island is becoming more and more popular with travellers. The north side has exclusive resorts and spa facilities, while in the south you’ll find traditional Indonesian towns and plenty of handicrafts for souvenirs, too. Wherever you are on the island, idyllic beaches are never far away.

Things to do

NATURE
Bintan is increasingly developed, but inland you’ll still find lush rainforests. If you want to see local birds and exotic reptiles, it’s worth visiting Sawah Ladang Bitan – an organic farm open to visitors.

LANDMARKS
The north of the island is a fairly recent development, and if you want to see authentic Bintan architecture and culture then Tanjung Pinang is two hours drive away. Part of the ancient market here is set on stilts rearing up from the sea.

SPORTS
With four exclusive golf courses, as well as watersports aplenty, you’ll be spoilt for choice for something to do. Surfing and bodyboarding are also popular in the months when there’s more swell in the water, from November to March.

Top Tip from SLH

If you take a boat to explore Singapore or the Riau Islands, you’ll find most locals stay inside to benefit from the air-conditioning. Be sure to go up on deck to see the views.
