Introducing Granada

The Moorish sultans may have left centuries ago, but their customs still abound. Many cafes offer hookahs with refreshments, and there’s plenty of exotic fine dining. Awe-inspiring buildings will be all around you as you stroll, too. If you’re a keen skier, Sierra Nevada is close by, making Granada perfect for both city breaks and countryside adventures.

Things to do

If you only have time to see one sight in Granada, make sure you visit the Alhambra. This magnificent complex was home to the Sultans in the 13th and 14th centuries. Today, it’s simply one of the wonders of the modern world.

Locals in Granada are incredibly proud of the flamenco tradition. An excellent place to see an authentic show is in the Sacromonte area – the Gypsy neighbourhood. You’ll also have magnificent views of the Alhambra from here.

The local wine can be quite like sherry, and the locals also drink red wine with lemonade. Make time for a soft drink too. There are plenty of traditional teterías, or Moorish tea rooms, dotted around Granada.
